Georg Greve, President of FSF Europe, has written an article on the monopolization of traditional knowledge, such as patents on medicinal plants and traditional food crops, and the dangers of accepting the internal logic of "intellectual property". The article is available from FSFeurope.org.

The Association for Free Software (AFFS) has posted its January 2004 newsletter online at AFFS.org.uk. The newsletter covers recent free software events in the UK & Europe, and has a reminder of the upcoming Free Software in Education conference (FLOSSIE) at the London Institute of Education on Wednesday 18 February, jointly organised by AFFS, SchoolForge UK and The Learning Machine.

"Trusted Computing," in one form or another, is on its way and it fundamentally targets many of our current freedoms. The GNU Project ought to be working very hard to ensure that its solutions are obsolete even before it arrives.
